Chong-Yi Chen, the architect and owner of the firm, created a versatile space that can serve multiple purposes. The design inspiration came from the concept of fair-faced concretes, which are used both on the building exterior and interior, creating a sense of consistency. The low-key colors used in the design harmoniously blend with the surrounding environment, while the outdoor garden landscape provides a refreshing view for those inside the building.
The unique properties of "Pure Essences" lie in its simplicity and versatility. The design principle of "less is more" is evident in the construction method used, where the building exterior is created with gradually recessed volumes instead of an entire indoor space. This approach provides a sun-bathed balcony for the working colleagues, enhancing the overall working environment.
Chong-Yi Chen's design realization technology is equally impressive. The essence of the design lies in its lack of over-decoration, which presents the true nature of the space. The building exteriors are adorned with fair-faced concretes and delicate grey slates. The stone pavers with grass in between not only improve the water-holding capacity of soils but also effectively adjust the environment temperature.
The project, completed in December 2014 in Tainan, Taiwan, faced several design challenges. However, the team, including interior designer Hui-Chung Chien, successfully overcame these obstacles. The result is a design that embodies the pure but intriguing qualities of essences, with smooth traffic flows and space arrangements forming the soul of the space.
The "Pure Essences" project is a shining example of Chong-Yi Chen's innovative approach to architecture and interior design. It is a testament to the power of simplicity, functionality, and aesthetics in design, and a worthy winner of the prestigious Silver A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award in 2020.
